KISSS™ SUBSURFACE CAPILLARY IRRIGATION (SCI) creates a wide and continuous wetting pattern giving all plants and turf equal access to water and allows for near perfect air filled porosity. This does not happen when using SUBSURFACE DRIP IRRIGATION (SDI). SDI systems emit water from point sources thus forming water saturated anaerobic (low oxygen) areas in the soil that are not optimal for plant growth or disease tolerance. SCI irrigation creates a significantly larger volume of moist, non-saturated soil. This means that more nutrients and oxygen are available to roots in a larger area.
By irrigating with SCI all turf and plants are healthier, more productive, more uniform and more resilient to drought and disease. SCI has the other benefit of being immune to root intrusion given that the proper irrigation cycles are implemented. No herbicides or acid flushes are required to remove roots.
Drip Tape - Water is carried to the geo-textile fiber through pressure compensating emitters welded to the inside wall of high quality drip tape. This material is known as "drip tape" in the irrigation industry; however, we use 25 and 35 mil thick tape which is more "tube-like" in structure.
Geo-Textile Fiber - Geo-textile fiber is the heart of KISSS systems. This special "capillary fiber" wicks water out into soil at its own natural absorption rate. This kind of "capillary action" prevents over-saturation of soil, water waste, and soil compaction.
Dispersion Tape - The top blue strip of tape, known as the dispersion layer prevents water from creating a chimney effect from the emitters within the tape and tunneling straight to the surface.
Anti Percolation Layer - The bottom later is designed to prevent downward drainage loss of water.
Dispersion layer: Pushes water out into the geotextile fiber. Discourages so-called "chimney effect" experienced with drip irrigation.
Capillary Fiber: Used to transmit the water to the soil after it has been wetted by the (CNL) emitters. Water travels through the geo-textile fiber at a rate roughly 3,000 times faster than soil.
Pressure compensating Non-leaking emitter: Has an internal diaphragm so that below a certain pressure the water will not continue to drain. Emmiters don't allow water and debris to enter the system through suction.
Safety Flow is the KISSS waste water irrigation product. KISSS Safety Flow comes in Safety Flow FLAT and Safety Flow WRAP. The watering attributes and installation of Safety Flow is identical to its Below Flow sister product line. Safety Flow is also made up of the same specialized materials with one exception. Since Safety Flow is a wastewater/grey water system it utilizes special dripper line rated for this type of effluent water.
Special filtration and septic system must be used in conjunction with KISSS Safety Flow, however these systems are simple to install and widely available is the irrigation market.
